DIY baby powder

Ingredients  

  • ½ cup corn starch
  • ½ cup Arrowroot powder
  • 1 drop Roman Chamomile essential oil
  • 1–2 drops lavender essential oil
  • ¼ cup finely ground oats  

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients and mix well. Tip: If you don’t have finely ground oats, combine ingredients in blender and pulse until finely ground. 
  2. Put ingredients in shaker style bottle. Tip: Use an empty spice jar with sifter lid for easy application.

Homemade diaper cream

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup virgin coconut oil
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil
  • 3 drops tea tree essential oil

Instructions

  1. Melt coconut oil in glass cup using microwave or double boiler.
  2. Add essential oils and stir briefly.
  3. Allow mixture to cool to restore the original consistency of the coconut oil.
  4. Store in a sealable glass container and leave in cool place. Apply as needed.

Natural kids shampoo

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup liquid castile soap
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin
  • 10–15 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions

  1. Pour water into a glass pump bottle.
  2. Add liquid castile soap. Note:This ingredient is cleansing and helps give the shampoo its suds. If you’re unable to find castile soap, opt for another natural liquid soap.
  3. Add glycerin. Note: Glycerin is a great inclusion as it helps hair retain moisture in the shaft, and provide a glossy shine.
  4. Add Lavender oil. Note: Lavender is a gentle addition that helps soothe skin. 
  5. Shake glass bottle until all ingredients are mixed thorougly.
  6. Lather a pump or two of this mixture into your child’s hair at bath time.
  7. Shake well before each use.

Postpartum soothing spray

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons witch hazel
  • 4 tablespoons filtered water
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops frankincense essential oil

Instructions

  1. Combine witch hazel and water in a small glass spray bottle. (The bottle pictured here is much larger, to demonstrate a larger portion.)
  2. Add Lavender oil and Frankincense oil.
  3. Shake well and apply to perineum, or spray onto feminine hygiene pads for a cooling effect.

Aromatherapy play dough

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups colored water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 5 drops of essential oils 

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients, except for essential oils, in a large saucepan and stir until combined.
  2. Once combined, put over medium heat. Using a spatula, continue to stir ingredients together until it forms a ball. Note: Don’t overcook as it will lead to dry play dough.
  3. Remove from heat and cool on parchment paper.
  4. Once cool, add five drops of your favorite essential oil and knead until thoroughly combined.
  5. You’re done! Just store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for months of fun.
